Next comedy show! February 10th, ya’ll!

So funny you go insane

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Over break, Josh and I got to catch Louis CK’s latest special, Hilarious. We were absolutely thrilled and it’s definitely as good as his last special, Chewed Up. He’s our favorite stand-up comedian and we can’t get enough of him. Even when he put on his FX show, “Louie”, we had to catch every episode and not only love the stand-up portions, but also the darkly humorous sketches.

I’ve gone through a bunch of the regular comedians and have drawn them all. I’m holding off on drawing some of the newbies because I’m not sure how regularly they will be coming. I don’t want to draw a comedian who won’t show up when he or she is featured on the flier. So here’s my cop out, drawing the other regulars hangin’ out with the fat sack of shit who should suck a bag of dicks, Louis CK. Click to view it larger! The show starts at 8PM, Thursday January 13th.

Nude Self-Portrait

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Ahh, another open mic at the Sentient Bean. As fun as it is to perform in other venues, I always feel at home when I’m at my favorite coffee shop. Thanks to all who came out on Monday night for the Night of Stand Up, hosted by my pal Chris Davison. I just killed, had a blast, and now we’ve found another place in Savannah that is great for comedy (and we found out how to set the stage in a great way, too!).

This month is a rarity for my posters. I’ve drawn myself! I’ve held out long enough, and now I’m done a self-portrait and a joke of my own. I do impressions of Christopher Walken and Gilbert Gottfried at one point, and sometimes I get huge laughs. And I felt so compelled to do the poster in the style of theme-park caricature portraits. It turned out to look like a Three Stooges poster. Now, I’ve been able to impersonate Walken since I started doing comedy. Everyone has a version of him in them. But Gilbert Gottfried was a much more interesting discovery. Whenever I’m drawing, and I’m not listening to music or a podcast, I start to talk to myself. Many times, in different voices. During the Christmas break in 2008, I was drawing and being a crazy person, and Gilbert Gottfried started talking to me. I was working way into the night at my parents’ house, and as I had to stop myself from yelling in that voice. But I was going crazy with this discovery! I HAD to keep going with the voice, tinkering it out in detail. I’d jump onto YouTube and found his clips and jokes to tell in his voice. By the time I had perfected it, my parents were in my room telling me to go to bed. And as I laid there in the dark (with the sun just about to rise), I knew I had to debut it at the next comedy show.

Rape and Murder Tomorrow

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

It’s tomorrow! I hate that I didn’t color it, but colors could come soon. I will be doing a massive coloring job for the collected volume of comedy posters. More bad news: I will not be performing at this event, because I’m a really stupid person. Thanks for coming by the blog, even though I haven’t been posting . My life has just been a frenzy of emotions, events, etc. Lots of “E’s”. I hope I could post a little more, but with finals being super creepy, it may have to wait until break.

Space Magic Adult

We have another show coming up, so another poster! This is based on a joke by my buddy Peter Griffin (yes, it’s his real name), a joke that is devastatingly hilarious because it comes from a devastatingly hilarious person. So I spent my time getting this to look absolutely beautiful. I color this one! I got to experiment with a bunch of things. And I’m pretty pleased, but honestly, I like the black and white version a lot more.
