Two Nights of Stand-up

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Hollaback Holidays! I just finished up a weekend of turkey and sushi (I wait tables in my day job, and I have a family I eat turkey with annually), and even though it’s break, I’m using my free time to make pretty pictures.

Other things I’m using my free time to do is appearing in DeckTechs! Shooting began yesterday, and goes on for the next few weeks. My friend Josh and I are going to be buddies in the show, characters who are always called in to do maintenance on deck. I’m pretty excited because they seem to be comical, and I can’t wait to see the lines I get. I’m sure it will be funny!

But I’ll also be telling jokes a few times this month. I’ll be doing a set at the Bay Street Theater on Dec. 3, with feature act Artie Fletcher, but the exciting news comes the following Monday.

December 6th is a show produced by Chris Davison, and includes performers like Josh Wood, Shane Grey and Peter Griffin! It should be a lot of fun. The poster to the left was illustrated by none other than Julie Collins, one of my professors at SCAD! She got our likenesses all down perfectly. And people love drawing me in that hat! Wanna see another drawing that I’m in wearing that hat? Check it out after the jump!

I colored a new poster and an old poster, both featuring Josh Wood in them. Above are the colors with tweaks and color correcting by Josh Wood. And below are my original colors you can totally compare them to. I like some of the changes he made, but you can decide which ones are better.

I knocked the colors for these in one night! I’m so pumped about digital coloring now, I hope you guys are enjoying the fruits of my labor. This week, my bestie Josh needed the old January comedy poster colored, and I filled his request! And I’m glad he made me. Now I’m undertaking a project where I will be adding color to all the old comedy posters, with the hope that in the end they will be collected in a full-color hardcover Stand-Up Comic Book Gig Posters book.

#18. Once in an attempt to get laid Jeremy, Josh, and Peter pretended to be comedians, and women have been laughing at them ever since.

It is inauguration day! I’m watching it in class, because it just so happens that my class started at 11 and the celebration starts at 11. My schedule this quarter did not work out in my favor for things like this. And Lost. and Heroes. Thank god for Hulu.

It seems like the second comic with Hugh Mohr is also very minimal. Would a background help these comics? Hugh just seems to not need too much, and his jokes are always just cute little quips. What a hilarious guy. This comic has also been written by Josh Wood, who is white. But he has a sense of humor no matter what level of racist it is. It seems today that it is a very low level of racism. Who knows what tomorrow will be like!
