I’m a huge fan of the ridiculous. There’s the Old Spice Guy, Suckerpunch, Lady Gaga. But no one makes fun of the ridiculousness by being even more ridiculous like Nick Kroll. Nick Kroll is a comedian, comedic actor, a one-man Muppet show, whatever you want to call it. His character Ruxin the best thing about the FX series “The League”, but thats not the best thing about Kroll at all.

El Chupacabra, the Mexican radio announcer. Or Bobby Bottleservice, the Jersey-Show-esque party boy. And there’s Fabrice Fabrice, where all you have to say about him is that he is the craft cervices coordinator of the TV show “That’s So Raven”. His fearlessness of being in character no matter how ridiculous gave me the balls to hit stage in costume as the Aflac Duck. And as the Gilbert Gottfried-sounding mallard, I had the freedom to say almost anything I wanted under the mask of a duck bill. Which helped me not fear crowds when performing as myself.

I had followed all the Funny or Die clips that featured him (or his characters), or the podcasts that interviewed him, and how he integrated them into his stand-up in his television appearances. So I was thrilled when Nick Kroll announced he was recording an hour special called, “Thank You Very Cool” for Comedy Central, which live bits and pre-taped stuff. He even promised bonus material for the DVD. The special aired in January and I have yet to hear of a DVD release date, because I could watch him and hischaracters be ridiculous any day of the week.

So, Comedy Central. Where’s Nick Kroll’s Thank You Very Cool Stand-Up DVD?? If I get an answer this week, then I’ll color these!

Here’s a bonus scene of Fabrice Fabrice that isn’t in the aired special:

PS. If it ever comes out, watch Kroll do his act-out of drunk packing for a trip to Jamaica. One of my favorite pieces in his stand-up. Or him explaining Michael Jackson to his made-up son. Shit, just watch it all.

Demetri Martin is premiering his new show tonight, Important Things with Demetri Martin, at 10:30PM on Comedy Central. Some cool tidbits about the show is that it is produced by Busboy Productions owned by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show. Jon also produces the Colbert Report. It seems like he’s got his hands in some great properties and at a good time, too. In this economic meltdown, comedy is definitely a needed escapism, and Demetri brings a show that isn’t full of political and social commentary. He presents his observations on the smaller but important things in life.

Enjoy my comic and enjoy the show!
