Do you date me?

June 13th, 2011

I’m a huge fan of the ridiculous. There’s the Old Spice Guy, Suckerpunch, Lady Gaga. But no one makes fun of the ridiculousness by being even more ridiculous like Nick Kroll. Nick Kroll is a comedian, comedic actor, a one-man Muppet show, whatever you want to call it. His character Ruxin the best thing about the FX series “The League”, but thats not the best thing about Kroll at all.

El Chupacabra, the Mexican radio announcer. Or Bobby Bottleservice, the Jersey-Show-esque party boy. And there’s Fabrice Fabrice, where all you have to say about him is that he is the craft cervices coordinator of the TV show “That’s So Raven”. His fearlessness of being in character no matter how ridiculous gave me the balls to hit stage in costume as the Aflac Duck. And as the Gilbert Gottfried-sounding mallard, I had the freedom to say almost anything I wanted under the mask of a duck bill. Which helped me not fear crowds when performing as myself.

Graduatin’

May 31st, 2011

I am graduating soon! I created these postcards to send out to my family. I also sent out copies of “Luke Holds Off”, too, which I hope were well-received. In other news, the impromptu gallery show went well! A lot of friends and comedians came out to show their support. For such a last-minute show, it was a huge success. Everyone drank my beer.

Finally, I get this together.

May 23rd, 2011

Oh my god. I’m so excited for this. I am putting together this gallery show and I haven’t been this jacked since my last quarter at SCAD. It has been an incredible time living in Savannah, putting together comedy shows, and promoting them on Facebook with these posters. There are posters from a handful of different venues in Savannah; a majority from the open mic show at the Sentient Bean. And the space is amazing and nice and bare. I’m way too excited. My curator is also my best friend Josh! He is helping me out in such a big way, putting together my prints, originals, comics, etc. Some of the comedians will be on hand, too, so you can match comedians with their illustration!

I will be selling a lot of great sketches from the past few years. I have never-before-seen sketches and paintings available. Also, I will be having my latest mini comic “Luke Holds Off” for sale as well. Stop on by!

May 26th, 10p.m. 625 Tattnall St. Savannah, GA 31401.

I’m Not Chinese, Either

May 10th, 2011

I was actually against making this poster at first. Then I realized, I’m not Chinese, I wouldn’t be offended at all. So I went with it. Nick Brown is an interesting character and pulling from this joke was a no-brainer. It was the most visual one I could come up with. You’ve got to come to the open mic to get a chance to see what this joke is all about. And the other reason you may want to come: This may be my very last performance in Savannah EVER!

the costuming was stolen from Gene Yang’s stereotypically Chinese caricature Chin-Kee, from the book American Born Chinese. Yang is an important voice in the Asian-American comics community, and I just had to take his lead with the costume.

Feels so good

April 21st, 2011

Well this weekend I’m off to FLUKE is Athens, a small but really fun convention in a beautiful city. A lot of my friends will be in attendance. It’s held at the 40 Watt this year, which is going to be a new experience so I hope it becomes a regular venue.

I sat down and drew this illustration. It’s an image that’s been in my head and it felt so good just to put it down and get rid of it. I come across these weird compositions in my head, and though that makes me sound crazy, it’s true. All artists have a vision of what they want to create, and one of those visions is something they didn’t even imagine as an illustration first. Just an image that needs to come out out of them. Well, it’s out. Now I can go back to focusing on printing and folding comics for the upcoming conventions. Much love!
